Driver Training

(Teen Driver)

Our price for teens drivers. In California you will need six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor to qualify for your license. You must first enroll for a driver training program.

We offer the enrollment certificate you'll need to get your learner's permit for $40. The Teen Driver Training Program (6 hours) is now $200. So, the total cost for enrollment and behind-the-wheel is $240. There is a payment plan available.

For those students who wish to go to Fresno on a lesson I charge $20 more to pay for the extra gas. This affords the option to save some money and practice in the Oakhurst area only.

The student driver can be enrolled in Oakhurst or in most cases at your home. Once enrolled the student must go the DMV and take a written test on the rules of the road. Now the permit must be validated with an initial driving lesson with a qualified driving instructor. Call me and we can set up the initial lesson.

In addition to the 6 hours of Driver Training with an instructor the student driver will need to have a minimum of fifty (50) hours practice with an adult 25 years old or older. The adult must have a California Driver's License not on probation. The fifty hours must include at least ten (10) hours of night driving. To aid the parents in helping train their student driver the DMV has a booklet or they can go to the following site: http://

The six hours of Driver Training is usually split up into 3 lessons. Normally the student cannot be taught more than 2 hours per day by law. I have permission from the DMV to teach 3-hour lessons. This will enable me to take the student into Fresno or Madera to practice freeway and urban driving. Within these guidelines the hours taught in each lesson can be modified to suit the needs of the student and the desires of the parent(s).

I suggest allowing at least two (2) weeks between lessons in order for the student to practice the skills learned on the preceeding lesson. If the student can practice between lessons then he/she can be taught more advance driving skills in the next lesson. I don't suggest waiting too long in between lessons.

Generally, I evaluate each student's knowledge and skills in the first lesson. Some students already have some driving skills. Some students are starting from "scratch". If the student needs to aquire the basic vehicle control skills the first lesson will focus on that area.

Sometimes I find that the student has a good feel for the basic skills. I like to get this student into some traffic (if I feel the student is ready and willing).
